Former Playboy Playmate Dispels Myths Of AIDS Virus To USC Upstate Students
The beautiful Rebekka Armstrong was Playmate of the month in September 1986 and at the time had no idea the twist her life would take. Armstrong was diagnosed as HIV positive in 1989 but didn’t publicly announce her diagnosis until 1994. Rebekka appeared in Playboy as recently as 1995 when she appeared in Playboy's Blondes.
Since her admission, she has become one of the best-known public faces of heterosexual HIV transmission. She is now and HIV/AIDS awareness activist and safer sex education, and a spokesperson for several HIV-related charities.
After being diagnosed with HIV, Armstrong has dedicated herself to preventing others from making the mistakes of unsafe sex and drug use by giving audiences a frank look at the reality of this disease. And Armstrong speaks very frankly about how she contracted AIDS. In her speaking engagements, she notes that despite popular stereotypes of the wild sexual lives enjoyed by Playboy Playmates, she had in fact contracted HIV from a relatively normal teenage sexual encounter.
Rebekka has gone on to become a competitive body builder and placed first in the middleweight category of the 2004 Los Angeles Bodybuilding and Figure Championship. She is married to Oliver Luettgenau, a personal trainer who is also an HIV activist and a bodybuilder.
