Collecting Classic Playboys
Collectors of Playboy magazines come in many different types. Some collectors enjoy only collecting vintage
Playboys from a particular era such as the early issues from the 1950's. The much coveted 1953 issue that featured Marilyn Monroe on the cover, didn't even have the standard publication date and volume number (because Hugh Hefner wasn't sure there would be another one) is a hard item to find and has now become a much sought after prize in the Playboy collections of many people.
Other collectors enjoy acquiring Playboy issues that featured certain celebrities such as Pamela Anderson, who has graced 11 covers of Playboy to date. Historical interviews with people that have changed the world are another hot item among collectors of Playboy magazine. Jimmy Carter's historical interview is still quoted and remembered by people.
An interesting fact regarding many of Playboy Magazine's in depth interviews is Alex Haley, the author who wrote both "Roots", conducted a good number of those one on one interviews with the movers and shakers of the time. Haley was Playboy's first interviewer and he was able to get a good number of otherwise unreachable personalities to sit down and answer his thought provoking questions. Interviewees included the forever-entertaining Johnny Carson, Malcolm X revealed his more charismatic side and proved to be a well-read and very intelligent man and the boxer who would become Muhammad Ali when he was known simply as Cassius Clay gave a very moving interview with Haley.
Not just known for its stunning pictorials and photo layouts that are considered photographic art pieces by many, Playboy has also been responsible for bringing the public the thoughts and words of the people who have shaped history.
